One of the movies that tops my list of "Oh I Can see it a million times" is The Shawshank Redemption... After the first time I saw it, I must have seen it already about 20 odd times still a while to go before the million happens but anyway :)
... and lets add another to this list today....
The Motorcycle Diaries or Diarios de motocicleta... The story of two doctors, well almost, who set out on an adventure in a old Norton 500 bike, which they call "The Mighty One", "La Pederosa" to be specific in the language the movie is made... The movie is in Spanish and I saw it with the sub-titles ofcourse... During the course of their journey, these two friends go through whatever one can think of... Bike Accidents, Crashing into cattle, skidding off into water, Snow, Desert, Water, Wind, Hunger, selling off the bike and so on and so forth...
One of the best scenes for me personally was when Emesto Fuser, jumps into the Amazon to cross it in the night only to reach the other side which is the camp for leprocy patients and celebrate his 24th birthday with them....
When I finished the movie and started reading about it, I realised that this man Emesto Fuser, later went on to be called Che, the iconic Marxist Revolutionary... Incidently I was unaware of this name till a few weeks ago when Bhumika talked about a Luxar highlighter ad which had won at the Cannes festival... That is when I had about the face with Subbu and Aro and we had briefly discussed him...
So Coming back to the point... This movie is now a favorite and stays one !!!!!

I love Shawshank Redemption too!
ReplyDeleteAwesome !!! the book is even better its more real i feel. Its one of my fav books
ReplyDeleteI heard about the book and not the movie, lets see when can I lay my hands on it!! :)
ReplyDelete# Kashmira...
ReplyDeleteoh its one of the best Angrezi movies EVER...
# Sharanya...
With books I feel the audience make their own movie in their minds... thats seems more real, whereas with movies we get to see the perception of the director etc which limits the scope at times...
# Sam...
Please do make an effort to find the movie.. you will not regret it...
OR if you are the reader kinds, you might want to read the book too...

Glad that you saw it. All this talk about the book being better, well, I think this is one of very few movies which does justice to the original book. Oh, and if it helps, the book is a thin one - won't take much time!
ReplyDelete# Subbu...
ReplyDeletehaan bhi... aaj baari hai spy game ki :) lets see if i can manage it...
Tu bolta hai to maan leta hoon... aur koi option nahi hai :D

ReplyDelete# Anoop...
ReplyDeleteThats what I am thinking too.. but I am afraid it would just get to be a part of all the books that I have bought and did not read !!!
This is a movie close to my heart and also one that changed my life for good.
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie many years back... (and have seen it many times hence). I was totally inspired for it went well with my teenage principles of revolution (even if it meant violence)...
But over the years as we get curious about history and the whole concept of 'Revolution', we must realise that Che and his 'cult of martyrdom' is not the way for the modern world that is already terribly deprived of peace...
I realised that what started off as courage and bravery went on to become ruthlessness and mass murder.. and this is how it has been with many of the revolutions... man forgets to carry his mirror to his battlefield...!
One of Che's quotes that is not part of the film, is:
"Hatred as an element of struggle; unbending hatred for the enemy, which pushes a human being beyond his natural limitations, making him into an effective, violent, selective, and cold-blooded killing machine. This is what our soldiers must become …"
I love the man, I still sport a teeshirt with his face...
it say "Cli-Che"...
ok.. sorry for that long blah.. that was because this is one of my fav movies too... and couldn't help present a perception. Do forgive :)
Those two are favorite movies of me too.
ReplyDeleteI remember after watching the movie, went on to read a lot about Che and also watching more movies and documentaries on him.
never watched any of those:-((
ReplyDelete# Vinod...
ReplyDeleteI think the long blah made sense :) thanks for sharing....
