iNnOvATe !!!

we all go through a phase in our everyday life when the usual things we do become so boring, so irritating so monotonous that we do not want to do them anymore... we do not want to be part of that daily routine life anymore.... and we do not know what can be done to change things.. because most of it looks like its not in our control...

some examples...
  • i hate to get up early in the morning... its such a pain...
  • i hate to take that same chartered to office.. or that bus to college is so crap...
  • i just cannot do this job anymore.. its taking me no where...
  • my job is so boring....
  • i do not have anything worthwhile to do in the evening... all day work and then nothing.. it sucks...

don't all of us go through something of this sort.. almost very regularly...

i also do...

and what do i do to take care of this..

well
  • either i can crib...
  • or i can keep quite and keep things inside me and keep getting troubled
  • or i can think of something that changes things...
like...

if i have problems getting up in the morning... i might think of doing something first thing in the morning that excites me... to start with listen to an alarm that is nice ( this might need a phone where you can change alarms as your favorite songs)

or go to the radio.. and listen to my favorite station...

or just get out of the house and take a walk around the neighbourhood...

or switch on my PC and run the cartoon that i love to love..

if i do not like the way i travel everyday...
then...

i can take a different bus.. maybe a bus 10 minutes earlier then usual...

i can take a different route if i am driving myself...

listen to the tapes that i bought 3 years ago.. and have not heard in a long while...

or spend time over the weekend recording my favorite numbers and then listen to them in my walkman or discman...

or give one of my old friends a quick 10 minute call... wonderful way to catch up...

ok..what was the next problem?

hmm... i do not like my work at office...

well there are times that this cannot be changed... too bad we cannot choose our own bosses and work profiles( at times)

so what can be done...

do the same work.. but Innovate !!! try new ways of reporting data... change the fonts that you use... think about naming conventions for your files... and so on and so forth...

try new things in doing the same activity...

shift your desk as well...

try facing the window if you have one.. and look outside when u do not feel like working...

walk upto the person you like talking to at times and go for a cuppa tea together.. .

about evenings now...

call up old friends.. those 10 minutes do wonders...

work out for 10-20 minites..

pick up an activity... like drawing.. sketching.. learning to play an instrument.. swim... go to the gym... that makes you spend time outside the house...

make sure you are the one who prepares salad for dinner ( thats all that i can do hence this idea)

read.. and then share it with someone who would listen to you...

i am sure there are a million other ways to improve our lives... but there ARE WAYS... we just need to look around.. and find them out for ourself...

treasure hunt...

isn't life one?

Love the bit "treasure hunt...isn't life one?" It so is.
Well written post, and one that will surely help a lot of us. Because at some level I am sure all of us are aware of the good things that can be done in a day's work, but a gentle reminder every now and then works wonders.

  4. if we look closely we will realise that we have not visited even 1% of the number of website that are there on internet in all these years.

and on top of that, we never go frequently to more than a dozen websites, maybe 2 dozen.

what if we try to find an amazing new website everyday which we can visit frequently?

  5. to burf..what if we get out of this fake internet world and visit a nice park around the corner with close pals --nothing fancy just a light evening in a decent place,or just a walk ...i mean why internet???

  6. good post.. :)treasure hunt is such an apt title for this one.
i liked the idea of bringing changes in daily life..and guess its one of best possible ways out. as they say 'changes r the only constant thing in life!'

here,i also remember something my nanaji told me long back.. 'u cant change things, but u can channel them ur way'..it might appear just contrary to what i just said (advocating changes etc), but i guess it fits in here.. think practically, cant really do much to alter the patterns of an average day..but sure can do something to add to a day's life.

and yes, about morning-singing alarm..i liked the idea of setting up a well-tuned alarm in ur mobile..or alternatively u can also fix one on ur comp as well..
(wish i could just fix one metal/hard rock no. on my friend's PC who promised to accompany me to morning walks & is still fast asleep !! )

rest is fine.. picking up an activity & make changes in ur settings and stuff..
and what i'd like to add to this is a request to all of us who decide to break the monotony of their life.. please be very very particular about whatever u decide to do. and stick to that new stuff till u decide its time for a change again... :)

  8. wat a post....too gud n yes quite innovative too:). getting up in the morning....aaah its actually a pain, ask me:(( n i can write a neverending book on it.

wish could just fit in all those gud things u mentioned in daily life to keep in better mood bt then always we have the solutions n its just tht we dont tk them too seriously to implement.

calling up an old frnd always always works..it just makes u feel so gud n takes u bak to gud old times:)

Mubarak ho. Pata hai I've not been online for three days now? You know? You know? Instead of sympathising, you're giving me this?
    *sulks*

Prashant, I didn't need this right now. Seriously. I'm going to leave for college in sometime, got up early, and all that.. well.. NO! I didn't need this. Chalo koi nahi.

And.. this kind of an attitude, naah. No. No. No. Doesn't work. I've tried all this. It all comes back once you're in the middle of the same activity once more.

  11. @ sayantani...

it sure is a treasure hunt...thanks for your words... we often need to be reminded of the most obvious... i just tried to do that to myself and thought that i should write it here too..

    # deepak...
    yes...

    # chips...
you are so right.. i am also excited at the thought of meeting old friends... or friends who are turning old ;)

    # burf...
did not really want to sit in front of a computer and see more of the screen.. when i want to break away from the normal...

    # anony...

    hmm..

    # richa...
good you liked the idea.. thanks..

    #mayuri...
i do nt think we need to be particular when we are looking for something to break away from the usual.. there is no need of a thought process to govern all our actions..

    # ankur..
    thanks bro..

    # shweta..
thanks... i also find getting up a biiiiiig pain but then the day has to start.. i cannot change that... however i can change the way the day starts for me...

these days i make it a point to listen to one song that i love everyday in the morning and dance to it.. ekdum masta mornings..

old friends yes.. anyday are great...

    #rohit..
    hmm...

if you think this is not going to work for you then ignore this post and live ur life the way you want... we all would have our ways to live and change them too...

you are too young to say that you have tried all this... there is a lot that you have to go through.. both for good and bad.. so be happy... lifes good !!!

  12. Chup karo. "Too young" may be, but too experienced! :P

    Grrr

  13. aah...know what.. now i doubt my communication skills when i read ur reaction to my comment(s) !!

i only meant to say that one should be particular in the sense one might give some time to choose and stick to a pastime. if one decides to start morning walks/gym and just leaves it in a couple of days.. i guess it wont bring any positive changes (rather some bodyache :P)the whole point is whatever u do..give it some thought and change it with some other habit/pastime if u think its not turning up well..

and didnt i say that i liked ur idea..of bringing changes in routine life...i m also trying the same for quite some time now..

just hope u ll not misread this comment *sigh* :) and if u did, please urself.. will talk about things when we meet .. :)

  14. # alice..
    thanks :)

    # mayuri...
i agreed to everything that you said except that you wanted someone to think before they break away... the intent of this post was to just make a quick change in the lifestyle and not plan that change to reach anywhere...

and its not possible to find out how the waters are unless you really step in.. so if you intend to first think about things and then make a change.. then it might add to all the thoughts that you have and lead you no where...

and that is what i think.. you might and looks like have a different opinion.. which is just fine :)

and coming to you trying to make that change for sometime now tells me that you are thinking more about what changes to bring and what to do.. and so on and so forth... hence just spending time thinking and not doing...

while what i did in the last few days was...
change the music i listen to in the car...
make sure that i listen to one of my fav. songs in the morning as soon as i get up...
make some small but effective changes in the work style...

    and they seem to work...

thinking about what you really need to do it essential.. but it should not take more time then required.. there is a delicate balance to be maintained there to ensure that you do not add just one more worry to you life.. and not do anything about it.. like you are doing to the rest of things which keep troubling you....

i am not misreading your comments... just commenting upon whatever i am reading :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. :D thanks ..
well.. just a couple of things there..
i m not trying to 'only think' about some changes in my life.. i m 'doing' some changes :) [theek se padha karo naa!!]

i changed my room-setting.. my wardrobe (upto some extent)...
re-arranged my files & folders on PC as well as on my shelf...
started walking to the deptt instead of cyclying down there each time;thus observing things on my way to academic area...
bought new books & read half of them :)

coming back to what we hv been discussing here... it now seems that i m blurring 'bringing some change'with 'developing a new hobby and sticking to it for some time'...ok ..ok.. i know the difference between two ...
now its clear that u wanted to tell us about bringing some changes to add spice in life..or just to break away..... & i was thinking a step further !.. about making some new hobbies & stuff..

end sem aa rahen hain naa. jayada padhne se yaehi hota hai.. dimaag kuch jayada hi chalta hai. :)

and, i also believe in 'doing' things rather than just '(only)thinking' about them.. :D
    ciao.....
