Who were they playing for?

I am not sure how many of you heard and noticed what the Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik said at the presentation ceremony...

He apologised to all the Muslims of the world for loosing that final !!!

Strange... was that team playing for muslims of the world or what? so now the non-muslims have won?

what surprises me more is that I did not see anything about this comment anywhere in the news...

anyway... I know for sure there were more muslims celebrating India's victory than the number of muslims in that country... I am very happy that Pakistan lost if this is why they were playing the game...

  1. i second your opinion.... these kinda comments make you doubt innocent muslims who support our country.... i m sure they purposedly chose ignore that comment i mean the media so not to generate any uncalled for controversies...

you are right... not that ppl in India both Hindus and Muslims take this as a cold war of sorts...

but making this statement on a world stage was ridiculous !!!

  3. that was quite stupid of shohaib to say that but that was done by him primarily to escape the aftermath of loosing to india in finals........but saying that he forgot that there are people in pakistan of other religion too.......and the irony was india had 2 muslims in their ranks one of which won the MoM.........

it has been taken up the media.......there were news items in NDTV, CNN IBN yday .....and almost all major newspapers have reported it today.......i didnt expected it in yday newspaper anyways cuz of all celebration stuff but today the media is full of it........

  4. i guess he is doing so many muslims as much wrong

    - pathan brothers were in fact playing against them

and everyone would have noticed that comment but none would want to pick it because of its understandably sensitive nature - it will escalate the problems all the more for those n[ice]ormal muslims

i guess he is just dumb illiterate idiot

  6. my two cents..

either it was a very deliberate attempt to save his a** from religious fundamentalists!

or it was a dumb mistake from someone who doesnt even know basic english and has been taught all along that india is hindu and pakistan is muslim (though i believe that this happens a lot in india too ! )

and yes ! the media has lost out on a breaking news :D

  7. i know someone who shares your sentiments. However, I just feel that it's a free world. If that is Pakistan's reason to play, then so be it. who decides whether his reason was petty or not. I certainly do not think that I am equipped to make that call...

I am not making any call here... i just feel that this was very idiotic of him to apologise to muslims... this game was not about muslims loosing or winning....

anyway... you choose not to make a call...
he chooses to say what he said...
i choose to say what i wanted to...

    free world right :)

  11. I heard that and could not stop laughing for some time... Such careless comments from sportspersons do no good to the society. And I agree with all people here who say that he did it to save his ass which he knew would be on an atom bomb ;D
However, I am still high on the win :D Enjoy! Yayy!

  12. Dude,

this point has been well covered in almost all media ..

Even a crap newspaper like Times of India covered it..

My personal opinion is pretty much in line with what most publications feel .... that, we cant really blame Shoaib. He is young, needs to win the respect of his teammates and selectors alike.

In the light of the severe islamification of the pakistan cricketing team, Poor shoaib doesnt really have any option but to pander to his critics who felt that Shoib was almost a rebel, unlike the bearded and pious inzamam ul haq, or saeed anwar.

the real people to be blamed are the PCB, who have failed to keep cricket and religion separate in pakistan .

Sports should never be mixed with religion, it is after all one of the few eyes with which one can get a gainful entry into the real culture of any country. But as we see in pakistan's case, cricket is providing us with a window into the culture, and its sad to note the radicalism prevalent in the culture in pakistan today

"chak de India" ( even after this song has been overplayed to a point well beyond annoyingness )

We won the damn world cup!

    Yash
