Correct English...

Its strange how people have speak about the correct way of speaking english...

I do not agree to a way of pronounciation being correct or incorrect, just because the people in a country speak it in a specific way...

I might have to adapt because the people here do not understand it, but to label a certain way of talking as incorrect is bullshit...

Atleast I do not know of anyone in India telling someone what is correct english and what is wrong...

I almost got into an argument with a friend, who insisted on using the words right english and wrong english... but stopped myself because she seemed to be completely convinced that the way people in London speak is the right english...

Anyway... let the computerrrrss be computerrrrrs....

  2. but if you don't adhere to a particular way then it would be an indisciplined mess

and plus adherence adds to the beauty of it

  3. subbu - it's not funny as amitabh put it in that movie, it is just that we don't know the reasons; plus every language can have its shortcomings

I agree... but its about a "Particular Way" and not the right or the wrong way !!! What is right in India may not be understood in the UK or US and visa versa...

And who decides whats right, when every country would have a way?

  10. "particular way" could be a consensus for all who are for and against the motion

but that doesn't still discount the fact that who invented it should have the say in correctness of it

The fact that English comes from UK does not really mean that the way people speak it today is the correct way of speaking it...

I think a language evolves over a period and how it was "invented" and how its spoken after a while usually are usually different... and that holds true for all the languages and not only english... take for instance Hindi... we guys do not even speak hindi anymore properly...

the point here is that there cannot be a correct or incorrect way of speaking a language... there would be some basic rules yes... and grammar too.. but talking about pronounciation... there cannot be a set rule around the world !!!
