It was such a wonderful experience travelling in the Metro yesterday... I boarded the train from Mandi House Status to go to Rajiv Chawk (read CP) and the crowd the train and on the Barahkhamba Station got me thinking about how the hell am I going to get off the train... CP station is usually overcrowded and the scene is not too different then the Mumbai Locals or the Kolkata Metro...
Looking at people standing in queues on the station almost shocked me... and then I noticed the Metro Guards who ensured that for every gate of the metro there were two rows of people to board the train, and the centre space was left for the people to de-board the train... even the announcement was now changed from instructing people to get down from the left, to getting down from the centre.. wonderful feeling this was... smooth getting out, and smoother boarding... I even saw loads of people thanking and appreciating the guards for their effort... There were continuous announcements as well which told the passengers to follow the instructions from these guards..
I hope the otherwise "i don't care" attitude, now gets more disciplined this way... and the ride in the best thing that has happened to Delhi in a long time, only changes for better...

Nice! Not only in Delhi, but everywhere in India, there is this lack of street courtesy that bothers me. Good to see some sense somewhere.
ReplyDelete# subbu...
ReplyDeleteit actually is a forced sense, which I think should get into the system slowly...
appreciate the effort that Delhi Metro has made...
I heard about this initiative on radio, these Samaritans are called "Pushers".
ReplyDeleteI think our so called huge corporates should learn a few lessons from the Metro team.
# priyanka...
ReplyDeletethere is a whole lot of people who need to learn from this initiative...
i am hoping that in a few weeks, the people who get into the habit of standing in the queues and not really need instructions from the guards to do the right thing...
Amen...
forced sense.....right.......DMRC is doing it to avoid troubles they have faced in past regarding door jamming, passenger falling down etc.....not to teach civic sense to people.........
ReplyDeletethough atleast in metro people tend to behave much better than bus or train atleast.....
# deepak...
ReplyDeletereally does not matter why DMRC is doing this... from a Metro Traveller's perspective I see people behaving on the station... helps build a win win situation and does not give a rude shock to people who come to the Delhi Metro the first time :)
Good to know that even though its forced, it will do much more good in future if people stick to these principles without being forced.
ReplyDeleteDelhi Metro is something which really makes me feel proud :-) and also never fails to amaze me with their so practical and indian approach to solve the unsolvable issues,,
ReplyDeletegood going

yea it is...
well mate .. i beg to differ that people here are standing in queue's to get inside the metro, come to rajiv chowk once again its become absolutely undisciplined...
ReplyDeleteatleast thats the best part of mumbai locals i can say ...but the hindsight is till the doors open, there is a heap of people waiting to get in ..and it becomes quite iffy to get out of the train
